Overview
- Meta announced Muse Image this week and has made the generator available for free on Meta AI while beginning a staged rollout into Instagram and WhatsApp.
- Muse Image creates images from text prompts, can edit existing photos, and can incorporate public Instagram photos when a user mentions an account in a request.
- By default public Instagram accounts are eligible for reuse by Muse Image, and Instagram does not notify account owners when their content is reused.
- Users can stop their Instagram posts and Reels from being used by turning off the “Allow others to create and reuse your content” switches in the app’s Sharing and Reuse settings or by making their account private.
- SAG-AFTRA and privacy groups say Meta should require explicit opt-in consent for any reuse of users' images, and the debate could shape rules for future Muse models such as Muse Spark updates and the planned Muse Video.
