Overview
- Meta this week began rolling out Muse Image, a new image‑generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs that is available inside Meta AI and is being added to Instagram Stories and WhatsApp with Facebook and Messenger to follow.
- Muse Image uses Meta’s Muse Spark reasoning engine to plan compositions, combine multiple user photos, perform targeted edits and render legible in‑image text for designs and infographics.
- The company added more than 30 Instagram Story effects and in‑chat image generation on WhatsApp as part of the staged launch and said Muse Video is in development.
- By default Meta allows Muse Image to use photos from public Instagram accounts as visual references when a public handle is mentioned, and the company says users can disable that through Instagram’s “Share and reuse” settings but will not be notified when others use their images or remove already generated synthetic content.
- Privacy groups and reporters warn the default opt‑out approach raises consent and notification concerns and could set a broad industry norm as Meta plans free everyday access plus paid tiers and advertiser tools such as Advantage+ Creative.
