Meta Introduces Paid Plus Subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp

Meta says the low‑cost tiers plus Meta One AI plans will diversify revenue to fund large AI and data‑center investments.

Overview

  • Meta began a global rollout of Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus, which the company confirmed Wednesday and priced at about $3.99 per month for Instagram and Facebook and $2.99 for WhatsApp.
  • The company also unveiled Meta One AI subscriptions with Meta One Plus at $7.99 and Meta One Premium at $19.99, and said limited pilots for those AI plans will start next month in Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia.
  • Plus plans add specific, named features such as profile personalization, animated reactions, advanced story metrics, larger audience lists, more pinned chats, premium stickers, custom tones and visual themes for WhatsApp.
  • Meta said free basic access and the separate Meta Verified service will continue to exist while paid tiers offer higher capacity, larger usage limits and faster AI processing for heavy users and creators.
  • Meta frames the shift as a revenue diversification move to help pay for large AI and data‑center spending and to give creators and businesses extra tools, a change that could shift who sees advanced analytics and reach on the platforms.
