Met Takes Over Murder Probe After Man Found Dead in Leicester Van

London detectives seek to identify the victim by tracing the van's route to establish how he died.

  • Police forced entry to a white Ford Transit and found a man's body in a van parked off Garden Street in Leicester after a member of the public raised concerns.
  • The van, registered BF18 VNV, led investigators to an address in Hounslow where a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
  • Following the arrest and further enquiries, responsibility for the inquiry moved from Leicestershire Police to the Metropolitan Police and a crime scene was put in place at a Sutton Dene, Hounslow property.
  • Detectives have urged the public to check doorbell, CCTV and dashcam footage for the van's movements, particularly footage showing it travelling to Leicester in the lead-up to Wednesday, 27 May.
  • Forensic work and identification are ongoing, next of kin will be informed once the man is identified, and police have asked anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident 9873/28MAY or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
