Met Police Resume Palestine Action Arrests With 18 Detained at Scotland Yard

The force says the ban remains in effect pending a government appeal.

Overview

  • The Metropolitan Police arrested 18 people outside New Scotland Yard on Saturday during a protest in support of Palestine Action.
  • The force reversed a February pause after saying the High Court ruling does not take effect until the Home Secretary’s appeal is decided.
  • The High Court found the government’s ban unlawful in February, but the Met says it will enforce the law as written until the appeal is heard.
  • The July 2025 proscription makes membership or public support a crime punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
  • More than 2,700 people have been arrested under the ban, and Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring has paused hundreds of cases until the Court of Appeal hears the challenge at the end of April.
