Met Police Probe Missing £15,000 Diamond Bracelets After Royal Mail Return Mix-Up

Royal Mail says an addressing error sent the Special Delivery item to its Belfast returns hub, after which it was dispatched on 6 January then not found.

Overview

  • Nikoo Tayebi sent two diamond bracelets by Special Delivery on 1 December to a Hatton Garden jeweller, valuing them at £6,500 and £8,500 with strong sentimental importance.
  • The parcel was redirected to Royal Mail’s National Returns Centre in Belfast, and the sender says tracking updates ceased once it was scanned there in mid‑December.
  • A tracking alert on 6 January stated the parcel was returned to sender despite no delivery, and Royal Mail says the item left the returns centre that day and has not been located.
  • Royal Mail has escalated the case to the Postal Review Panel, and the Post Office said responsibility transferred once the parcel left its counter.
  • The Metropolitan Police received a report of mail theft on 26 January and confirmed an active investigation with enquiries ongoing.
