Met Police Probe Antisemitic Arson After Four Jewish Ambulances Torched in Golders Green

Police have stepped up patrols to reassure residents.

Overview

  • Officers were called around 1:45 a.m. to Highfield Road, where four Hatzola Northwest ambulances were found ablaze in the car park next to Machzike Hadath Synagogue.
  • The London Fire Brigade reported multiple on-board cylinders exploded, shattering nearby windows, as six engines and about 40 firefighters brought the fires under control around 3:06 a.m.
  • No injuries were reported, but nearby homes were evacuated and roads were closed as a precaution while the incident was made safe.
  • The Met is treating the case as an antisemitic hate crime, is reviewing CCTV and online footage that appears to show three suspects, and has made no arrests.
  • Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Mayor Sadiq Khan, Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis condemned the attack, and Hatzola said its North West service remains operational.
