Met Officer Lewis Rollins Trial: Jury Hears of Hotel Assault and Loans Tied to Gambling Habit

Prosecutors say a persistent gambling habit drove efforts to extract money from several partners.

Overview

  • Dr Georgia Miller testified that Rollins threw her from a bed, slammed her against a wall and grabbed her by the throat during a July 2022 stay at a Birmingham hotel.
  • Jurors were shown evidence from an August 13, 2022 incident where witnesses reported Rollins shoving Dr Miller into the road; bodyworn footage captured her reluctance to identify him because she feared he could lose his job.
  • Financial records and messages presented in court showed transfers including £1,000 for a bet, more than £1,000 for rent and a £1,500 payment earlier provided by another woman, Alisha Steeds.
  • Prosecutors said trainee solicitor Emily Busby gave Rollins £800 for a housing deposit, let him use her car and later took out a £4,000 loan, of which £2,500 went to him, which he allegedly claimed as his money.
  • Text messages shown to jurors included Rollins writing, “How do we move past I beat you up?” and describing himself as focused on drinking and gambling; he denies all charges as the Southwark Crown Court trial continues.
