Met Officer Dismissed for Running Coffee Business During Paid Suspension

A misconduct panel called the venture a sophisticated unauthorised operation that brought the Met into disrepute.

Overview

  • A 12 February misconduct hearing found PC Stanley Kennett committed gross misconduct, leading to dismissal without notice and placement on the College of Policing barred list.
  • Kennett applied on 23 April 2024 to register The Coffee Cycle as a business interest while suspended, was refused a week later, and a September 2025 check found he continued operating it while on full pay.
  • Panel chair Commander Andy Brittain said the venture was a full-blown, expanding business with a director’s loan, staff and active social media promotion, posing a high risk of reputational harm.
  • The Coffee Cycle was incorporated on 1 April 2025 with Kennett listed as director and operates from a bike shop in Storrington, West Sussex, serving coffee, cakes and event catering.
  • Kennett accepts the conduct but argues it was misconduct rather than gross misconduct, and he and the company dispute aspects of the reporting as the Met faces other recent disciplinary cases over outside work.
