Met Launches Manhunt After Convicted Robber Escapes Hospital Custody for Second Time in a Week

The 2023 convict linked to £115,000 cryptocurrency robberies was slated for deportation to Ghana.

Overview

  • Daniel Boakye, 21, fled police custody at Lewisham Hospital at about 15:05 on Sunday, 15 February, after receiving medical treatment and leaving the building despite officers giving chase.
  • The Metropolitan Police issued a public appeal, describing him as black, of medium height and slim build, last seen in grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket, and urged anyone with information to call 999 quoting CAD4005/15FEB or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
  • It is his second escape in a week after absconding from West Middlesex University Hospital on 10 February before being found and arrested at an address in Thamesmead on 11 February.
  • The force says it is reviewing the latest incident, with the Directorate of Professional Standards aware, and earlier arrests of associates on suspicion of assisting an offender remain part of the investigation.
  • Media reports note government sources still aim to deport Boakye to Ghana, and an online clip purporting to show him since the escape has circulated but has not been verified.
