Overview
- Ian William Moses, 35, was sentenced on Jan. 13 to 60 months in federal prison and 36 months of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Diane J. Humetewa.
- Moses pleaded guilty on Oct. 27 to federal counts of maliciously damaging property and vehicles by means of fire after a grand jury indictment.
- Surveillance video showed him placing starter logs, pouring gasoline on the building and three vehicles, and igniting a blaze that destroyed a Cybertruck before fleeing by bicycle.
- Mesa police arrested him about a quarter mile away and found a hand-drawn map marking the dealership; investigators also documented graffiti reading “THEIF.”
- Officials described the crime as politically motivated; U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine condemned the danger to the public, and Attorney General Pamela Bondi labeled it “domestic terrorism” despite no such charge.
