Mery del Cerro Says She Lost a Pregnancy and Had a Rare Abdominal Tumor Removed

Doctors removed an encapsulated seven-centimeter, highly vascularized tumor and have sent it for molecular study to learn exactly what it was.

Overview

  • Del Cerro disclosed June 26 on the TV program Otro día perdido that she lost a pregnancy last year shortly before moving to Montevideo to film the HBO Max series Margarita.
  • About two weeks after returning to Buenos Aires she developed abdominal pain and an ultrasound found a seven-centimeter mass that doctors described as highly vascularized.
  • She was hospitalized immediately and underwent emergency surgery the next day; surgeons removed an encapsulated tumor and the operation was reported as successful.
  • Del Cerro waited roughly 40 days for biopsy results, and medical teams told her the case was extremely unusual and sent samples to the Hospital Italiano oncology group for molecular analysis and presentation.
  • She kept the episode private at the time, shared it now as part of processing the trauma, and says the experience has given her renewed purpose as she returns to stage work.
