MercedesMaybach Refresh Drops V12 in Europe and Makes Electrified V8 the Flagship

Responding to Euro 7 rules, the update shifts the model to electrified drivetrains, adds the MB. OS AI stack, and greatly expands bespoke Manufaktur options.

Overview

  • The facelift, which Mercedes revealed to press Tuesday, removes the V12 from the regular European Maybach range and elevates an electrified V8 mild‑hybrid as the European flagship.
  • Mercedes says the V12 will still be offered in the armoured S 680 Guard and in select non‑European markets where regulations and demand allow.
  • The car debuts the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System (MB. OS) in Maybach form with a next‑generation virtual assistant that integrates cloud AI from Microsoft, Google and ChatGPT partners.
  • Maybach focused the revision on comfort, lighting and personalization rather than raw displacement, adding a larger illuminated grille, upgraded Digital Light headlamps and an expanded Manufaktur program with over 150 exterior colours and hundreds of interior combinations.
  • Reports agree on high pricing and broad electrification but conflict on the S 580e’s pure‑electric range, with outlets citing figures from roughly 98–100 km down to much lower numbers, leaving the exact electric range unresolved.
