MercedesAMG Turns the CLA 45 Into a Tri‑Motor Electric Performance Car

The new model pairs a 94 kWh LFP battery with three motors and software-driven sounds and haptics to keep AMG driving character as the marque shifts to pure-electric performance.

Overview

  • The CLA 45 4MATIC+ was unveiled on Friday as a fully electric model that replaces the previous hand-built 2.0‑litre turbo with a three-motor layout using one front motor and two rear motors.
  • MercedesAMG confirms a 94 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LFP) battery, WLTP ranges near 670 km for the sedan and about 639–640 km for the Shooting Brake, and up to 330 kW DC charging that can do 10–80% in roughly 22 minutes.
  • AMG cites sub-3.2 second 0–100 km/h claims and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (optionally 270 km/h), but published outlets differ on peak power and torque numbers and some weight figures remain inconsistent.
  • To preserve a combustion-like feel the car offers an AMGFORCE S+ mode, simulated gearshifts, synthesized engine sounds, torque vectoring, seat-mounted haptics and selectable drive modes aimed at delivering driver engagement.
  • The CLA 45 will be offered in sedan/Coupe and Shooting Brake forms with AMG styling, a four-seat performance cabin and Hyperscreen tech, and MercedesAMG has not yet published final unified power figures, pricing or regional launch dates so real-world range, track performance and market timing remain to be confirmed.
