Mercedes Launches First Electric Wagon With CLA Shooting Brake

The new body brings a rear hatch for more useful space with only a slight WLTP range trade-off.

Overview

  • Mercedes adds a Shooting Brake body to the CLA as its first all-electric wagon, with sales starting this spring from €48,250 for the EV and €44,279 for the hybrid.
  • The range includes CLA 200, 250+, and 350 electric versions plus hybrid gasoline variants in three power levels, with Mercedes quoting up to 769 km WLTP for the 250+.
  • Auto Zeitung’s first drive says the Shooting Brake keeps the CLA Coupé’s drivetrain, chassis, software, and tuning unchanged and gains only about 20 kg.
  • A large rear hatch lifts cargo capacity to 455–1,290 liters and a front trunk adds about 100 liters, which makes loading easier even if total space trails bigger rivals.
  • The longer roof and steeper tail raise drag, with the 250+ rated at 12.7 kWh/100 km WLTP, about 0.4 kWh/100 km more than the Coupé and a resulting 768 km WLTP rating.
