Mercedes-Benz Overhauls 2026 EQS With 800V Tech, 926 km Range and Steer‑By‑Wire

German sales begin pointing to a software‑first rollout with some features added after delivery.

Overview

  • Following Tuesday's reveal, German pricing starts at €94,403 for the EQS 400 and the range spans EQS 400, 450+, 500 4MATIC and 580 4MATIC.
  • The switch to an 800‑volt system lifts DC fast‑charging to 350 kW, which Mercedes says can add about 320 km of WLTP range in 10 minutes, and the pack can virtually split to keep speeds high on 400‑volt chargers.
  • A denser 122 kWh usable battery and new silicon‑oxide/graphite anodes raise efficiency, giving the EQS 450+ a WLTP‑rated 926 km, a 13% gain over the outgoing model.
  • New in‑house electric drive units pair with a two‑speed rear gearbox for launch punch and highway efficiency, while regenerative braking rises to about 385 kW for near one‑pedal driving.
  • The car runs on the new MB.OS with an AI‑enhanced MBUX assistant and over‑the‑air updates, and Mercedes says bidirectional charging will be enabled later with steer‑by‑wire arriving a few months after launch.
