Meghalaya Opens First Eklavya Residential School, Launches Session in Ri-Bhoi

Central funding underpins a broader push to expand quality schooling for tribal students.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Eklavya Model Residential School at Pahamsyiem on December 11, with the academic session already underway.
The institution was built with support from the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry under the national EMRS programme.
Nearly 2,000 students applied for a limited intake, reflecting strong demand for residential education opportunities.
The chief minister laid foundation stones for a synthetic athletic track at Pahamsyiem and a new convention centre.
He also flagged off four vehicles to improve rural transport links and support self-help group livelihoods, while citing an education budget rise from Rs 2,000 crore in 2018 to over Rs 3,500 crore in 2025.
