- Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in Shillong on Thursday flagged off a new Meghalaya Police fleet to strengthen response and patrols.
- The mix includes 20 Maruti Jimnys, 19 Tata troop carriers, 5 Mahindra mini trucks, 37 bus troop carriers of varied sizes, and 8 Tata Yodha vehicles for CID.
- Officials said 79 of the 95 vehicles were financed under the Government of India’s Central Assistance to State Police Scheme, with the purchase worth about Rs 30 crore.
- State leaders tied the rollout to wider reforms that include a Police Reserve Fund, upgraded stations and outposts, and recruitment of over 3,000 personnel into long-vacant posts.
