MedFlight Lands on Kingston School Field to Evacuate Injured Young Man

Police credit athletes and spectators with enabling a safe landing.

Overview

  • Emergency crews in Kingston responded late Saturday morning, around 11:30 a.m., after a car rolled down an embankment at a north-side home and trapped a young man.
  • Because of serious lower-body injuries, responders requested a MedFlight helicopter and chose Silver Lake Regional High School’s Lake Street field as the nearest landing zone during an active lacrosse game with about 200 people present.
  • Officers secured the field and asked several players to help remove water bottles and cones that could interfere with the helicopter.
  • The helicopter landed without incident and flew the patient to a Boston trauma hospital, where police said he is in stable condition.
  • Police said the cause of the roll remains under investigation and noted that the Family Services Unit is available to anyone who was distressed by the scene.
