MCD Panel Backs RWA Adoption of 15,000 Parks Under PPP

Implementation under the 2026–27 budget awaits House clearance.

Overview

  • Resident Welfare Associations would receive ₹13,500 per park for upkeep as the civic body shifts routine maintenance to community groups.
  • Delhi’s roughly 15,000 MCD parks spanning about 5,200 acres are targeted, responding to a gardener shortage in the horticulture department.
  • Eligible RWAs must be registered for at least three years and may adopt multiple parks only within their local areas.
  • RWAs will handle weeding, pruning, landscaping, and cleaning, while MCD retains responsibility for gates, lights, play equipment, utilities, green-waste lifting, and compost supply; no commercial use or permanent changes are allowed.
  • The committee also cleared amended bio-mining tenders for Okhla, Ghazipur, and Bhalswa to include legacy and fresh waste until July in line with Solid Waste Management Rules 2026.
