MBTA Train Totals Delivery Driver’s Car After Wrong Turn on Cohasset Tracks

Cohasset police say the driver’s quick exit likely prevented deaths as investigators probe roadway layout, signage and navigation errors.

Overview

  • A Greenbush Line commuter train struck a 2016 Toyota Camry at the North Main Street grade crossing after the delivery driver turned onto the tracks and became stuck.
  • The driver, a 33-year-old Mansfield man working for an online delivery service, exited the car and moved to safety before the collision and was not injured.
  • About 15 passengers were aboard the train and no injuries were reported among passengers or crew when the train stopped just short of the Cohasset station.
  • Emergency crews closed North Main Street for more than two hours to remove the totaled vehicle and clear debris before reopening the crossing.
  • Cohasset Police and MBTA Transit Police continue to investigate causes and safety factors, including road geometry, signage, lighting and possible navigation errors.
