MBTA Announces Parade-Day Shuttles and Red Line Boost for South Boston on March 15

The plan prioritizes crowd control after last year’s overload at Broadway Station.

Overview

  • Complimentary shuttles will run between South Station and South Boston from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with pickups at Summer Street at Atlantic Avenue and drop-offs at the City Point Bus Terminal on East 1st Street.
  • The Red Line will operate on a rush-hour schedule from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and trains may skip Broadway at times to manage heavy crowds.
  • Commuter Rail trains will add cars and run special schedules, including on the Fairmount, Fall River/New Bedford, Framingham/Worcester, Franklin/Foxboro, Greenbush, Kingston, and Providence/Stoughton lines.
  • Bus service will be reconfigured, with Routes 9 and 11 temporarily suspended and Routes 10, 16, 17, and 47 on detour, and bikes will be prohibited on transit for the day.
  • The MBTA expects nearly one million attendees and will deploy additional customer service staff and transit police, urging riders to buy tickets in advance and check MBTA.com/StPatricksDay for updates.
