Mazgaon Court Clerk Granted Bail in Rs 15 Lakh Bribery Case as ACB Probes Judge

The ruling follows a sanctioned ACB investigation into Additional Sessions Judge Aejazuddin Kazi.

Overview

  • A special ACB court on December 19 granted bail to clerk Chandrakant Vasudev on the condition that he cooperates with the investigation after an earlier denial in November.
  • Vasudev was arrested on November 10 for allegedly accepting Rs 15 lakh to secure a favourable verdict in a land dispute following an alleged Rs 25 lakh demand.
  • With Bombay High Court consent, the ACB recorded Judge Kazi’s statement and voice sample on December 8, searched his Churchgate residence on December 10, and seized his mobile phone for analysis.
  • Prosecutors told the court they have prima facie evidence of active involvement by both the clerk and the judge, citing recorded WhatsApp communications under forensic review.
  • Investigators say they are also probing potential involvement of other public servants, and no arrest of Judge Kazi has been reported.
