Overview
- Sharlene Mawdsley won the 400m at the Savona International Meeting in Italy in a personal best of 50.52 seconds, which was recorded as a meeting record.
- Her 50.52 lowers her previous lifetime best of 50.71 from the Paris 2024 Olympics and saw her finish almost a second ahead of the USA’s Talitha Diggs and Italy’s Eloisa Coiro.
- Earlier this month Mawdsley ran a 48.34 anchor leg at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, helping the Ireland women’s 4x400m qualify for next year’s World Championships.
- Athletics Ireland has announced multiple performance and pathway coaching appointments and received increased Sport Ireland pathway funding to expand strength-and-conditioning and coaching capacity.
- Mawdsley’s season-opening form narrows the gap to the Irish national 400m record of 49.07 and strengthens Ireland’s short-term championship chances as the federation builds toward LA 2028.
