Maura Higgins to Host Disney+ Reboot of Blind Date

Disney+ has commissioned a 10-episode Hulu Original to reimagine the classic British dating format for a global streaming audience.

Overview

  • Disney+ confirmed Maura Higgins as host at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday and said the series is a 10-episode Hulu Original that will begin filming later in 2026 for a 2027 release.
  • The streamer kept the core Blind Date premise of choosing between three unseen suitors behind the wall while promising new format twists such as couples living together and fresh potential partners appearing behind the partition.
  • The revival was commissioned by Sean Doyle, vice president of unscripted at Disney+ EMEA, with executive producers Matthew Worthy and Kieran Doherty for Stellify Media and Graham Stuart for So TV attached to the project.
  • Higgins was chosen for her reality-TV profile and international visibility after appearances on Love Island, Love Island USA: Aftersun and The Traitors US, and Disney+ described her as a tonal fit—cheeky, witty and warm.
  • The announcement drew mixed public reaction that reflects the show’s strong nostalgic association with Cilla Black while signalling a broader streamer strategy of reusing familiar formats to stand out in a crowded dating-show market.
