Matthew Slater Hired as BC High Assistant Head Football Coach

His leadership-focused role is meant to strengthen player development to rebuild Boston College High’s program after a 4-7 season.

Overview

  • Boston College High announced Tuesday that former New England Patriots captain Matthew Slater will join the staff as Assistant Head Football Coach for Leadership and Player Development.
  • The school says Slater will shape program culture, mentor players and captains, take part in games, practices, camps and clinics, and work with coaches to strengthen the long-term player pipeline.
  • Slater brings a 16-season Patriots résumé that includes 10 Pro Bowl selections, three Super Bowl rings and more than a decade as team captain, and multiple reports note he spent time on the Patriots’ staff after his playing career.
  • Slater is scheduled to make his first public appearance with BC High at a school football camp beginning August 17 and the team opens its 2026 season on Sept. 11 at Central Catholic.
  • BC High framed the hire as a character- and culture-driven move to help reverse a 4-7 season while improving player development and local recruiting opportunities for younger student-athletes.
