Overview
- A stolen SUV ran onto a Blue Hill Avenue sidewalk in Mattapan and struck and dragged 32-year-old Mabinty Janneh to her death after a reported carjacking, with officials saying she was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Police and prosecutors say 37-year-old Ibraim Matos of Hyde Park was arrested at the crash site, arraigned on multiple counts including murder and carjacking, pleaded not guilty, and is being held without bail.
- Surveillance videos released by local outlets show the suspect allegedly carjacking a woman, driving the wrong way onto the sidewalk and Janneh trying to flee, and those clips are being used as part of the evidence prosecutors are assembling.
- After the SUV crashed into an MBTA bus, bystanders and an MBTA driver pulled the suspect from the vehicle and restrained him while waiting for police, and other victims from the sequence of crashes were hospitalized with serious injuries.
- A judge ordered a 20-day competency and psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital for Matos before further proceedings and the case is scheduled for a status review on July 10 as Janneh’s family pursues memorial and fundraising efforts.
