Matt Clark’s ‘Hidden Order’ Animates Casa Batlló With Motion-Captured Dance

The fifth Casa Batlló mapping brings contemporary dance into the program through a façade piece linked to a new interior exhibition.

Overview

  • The projection runs in seven 12-minute sessions each night this weekend, with another seven scheduled today.
  • Clark translated Fukiko Takase’s choreography using a motion-picture technique and a 150-camera capture dome to render her movement on the façade in three dimensions.
  • The audiovisual piece features an electronic score by Belgian producer Daniel J. Thibaut.
  • Inside the landmark, Beyond the Façade opened to visitors with Takase performing in the Planta Noble and seven additional works on view, and the show is scheduled to run until May 17.
  • Organizers describe the outdoor installation as temporary with dismantling after the weekend, marking the fifth annual mapping in a Gaudí centenary year following editions by Refik Anadol, Sofía Crespo and Quayola.
