Overview
- Gov. Maura Healey proclaimed May 26 “Frantzdy Pierrot Day” at the State House in a ceremony attended by Pierrot, his family, former coaches and members of the Boston Haitian community.
- Pierrot, who moved from Haiti to Massachusetts at age 11 and played at Melrose High School, is a leading scorer for Haiti and helped the national team qualify for the 2026 World Cup by scoring a key goal against Costa Rica.
- At the State House Pierrot announced a new foundation to identify talent and expand soccer opportunities for disadvantaged youth in Haiti so more players can develop without needing to emigrate.
- U.S. travel restrictions on Haitian nationals, expanded earlier this year, will prevent many fans in Haiti from getting visas to attend Haiti’s June 13 group-stage game in Foxborough, with only participating teams exempt from the limits.
- Haiti’s first men’s World Cup appearance in 52 years has raised local and diaspora pride and could prompt more investment in Haitian football if Pierrot’s foundation and public attention translate into sustained support.
