Maryland Man Arrested After Alleged Police-Impersonation Attempt on I-695

The case adds to recent reports of police impersonation in Maryland.

Overview

  • Eric Baummer, 59, was arrested after an attempted Beltway stop that unfolded Tuesday around 4:40 p.m.
  • Troopers say a black 2014 Ford Explorer used blue and white lights to try to pull over an off-duty member of military law enforcement near Washington Boulevard.
  • The driver called 911, followed the SUV to a gas station on Hollins Ferry Road in Lansdowne, and troopers with Baltimore County police arrested Baummer without incident.
  • Maryland State Police charged Baummer with impersonating a police officer and asked anyone with similar encounters to contact the Golden Ring Barrack at 410-780-2700.
  • WBAL reported Baummer served as a Baltimore County officer from 1988 to 2002, and CBS detailed a similar recent Harford County arrest involving police lights and fake credentials.
