Maruti Suzuki’s e Vitara Nears India Launch as Tests Show Lower Real-World Range

Independent reviews peg the highway range near 330 km, putting the spotlight on pricing, safety credentials and a nationwide charging buildout ahead of the 2026 debut.

Overview

  • Maruti Suzuki’s first electric model, built in Gujarat for global markets, offers 49 kWh and 61 kWh batteries with claimed ranges of 344 km and up to 543 km and outputs of 144 PS and 174 PS.
  • Hindustan Times’ highway run covered about 282 km with 11% battery remaining, extrapolating to roughly 330–335 km per full charge versus the 543 km claim, with city driving expected to yield higher figures.
  • The e Vitara rides on the HEARTECT-e skateboard platform with a front e-axle and is tuned for predictable, ICE-like drivability with Eco, Normal and Sport modes.
  • Safety kit includes a five-star Bharat NCAP rating, up to seven airbags and Level 2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, AEB, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
  • India launch is targeted for early 2026 with pricing yet to be announced, as Maruti expands over 2,000 exclusive chargers in 1,100+ cities, explores Battery-as-a-Service to lower upfront costs and sources BYD Blade LFP cells with plans to localise packs over time.
