  • The two planets will reach their closest apparent separation of about 6 arcminutes at roughly 5:00 UTC on Saturday, July 4, 2026, creating a very tight visual pairing in the predawn sky.
  • North American viewers should look low to the east-northeast about 1 hour 45 minutes before sunrise and the best views will fit inside binoculars or a small telescope.
  • Mars will shine near magnitude +1.3 while Uranus will be much fainter at about magnitude +5.8, so Mars serves as a bright locator for the nearly naked-eye limit planet.
  • Small-telescope users may also spot the nearby background star cataloged as HIP 19146 and smartphone cameras may capture the pair under dark, clear skies.
  • The close appulse is an optical alignment only — Mars will be about 195 million miles away and Uranus about 1.88 billion miles — and such tight visible approaches occur only rarely over decades.
