Mark Sanchez Criminal Trial Pushed to July After Fourth Delay

The new date extends a pattern of defense-requested delays in a case shadowed by a related dram shop claim.

Overview

  • Judge James Osborn, who granted a defense request Wednesday, moved the trial to July 13 with a pretrial conference on July 8.
  • The ruling is the fourth delay at the defense’s request after earlier dates slid from December to March, then April, then May.
  • Sanchez faces a Level 5 felony battery charge and misdemeanors including public intoxication and unauthorized entry of a vehicle, with up to six years possible on the felony.
  • Prosecutors say an intoxicated Sanchez approached 69-year-old Perry Tole behind the Westin on Oct. 4 and entered his truck, while Tole told police he used pepper spray and then a knife in self-defense as both men ended up hospitalized.
  • Tole has also sued Sanchez, FOX Sports, and Huse Culinary, alleging negligence and a violation of Indiana’s Dram Shop law, which bars serving visibly intoxicated patrons, and Huse confirmed Sanchez attended a St. Elmo’s event that night.
