Marinko Jurendic Named Swiss Football's First Chief Sports Officer

The SFV created the new post to centralize men’s, women’s and youth programmes and shorten decision paths after the national team’s strong World Cup run.

Overview

  • The Swiss Football Association announced on Tuesday that Marinko Jurendic will become its first Chief Sports Officer and will report directly to SFV president Peter Knäbel.
  • Jurendic is due to start on 17 August and will be publicly presented by the federation on 1 September.
  • In the CSO role he will lead the three sport directorates for the men's national teams, women's football and football development and the position is intended to bundle competencies and speed up decisions across those areas.
  • Jurendic returns to the SFV after roles there from 2009 to 2017 and brings experience as FC Zürich’s sporting director during the club’s 2022 title and as FC Augsburg’s sport director from 2023 until 2025.
  • The federation says the change aims to lock talent development and national‑team strategy closer together, which should make player pathways and coaching decisions more coordinated as Swiss football responds to higher post‑World Cup expectations.
