Overview
- The Sidecar outfit hit a hare at the Brandish section during qualifying on 26 May, causing a high‑speed crash that left veteran racer Maria Costello with spinal fractures and paralysis from about T5/T6.
- Costello remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition with multiple other injuries and will need surgeries, specialist rehab and home adaptations for long‑term care.
- Passenger Shaun Parker is also hospitalised with chest, limb and facial injuries and both riders were initially treated on the Isle of Man before later transfers were reported to hospitals in England.
- Supporters have launched GoFundMe campaigns that have raised substantial sums for both riders, with Costello’s page at about £186,000 of a £225,000 target and Parker’s campaign raising roughly £7,000 of £12,000.
- Organisers suspended Sidecar racing for the rest of the TT and promised a full review after the meeting, while the racing community has mobilised fundraising efforts including Kyle Ryde’s planned 300‑mile ride to Knockhill to raise donations and prizes.
