Mar del Plata Bus Service Stops as Provinces Lift Fares and Subte Workers Plan Monday Action

Unpaid national reimbursements alongside surging fuel and wage costs have left systems short of cash.

Overview

  • Mar del Plata’s bus network, which stopped Friday after drivers’ wages were not deposited, remains halted until salaries are credited, the UTA union said.
  • Local operators in the city warned of a “terminal crisis,” citing a more than 65% gap between current and viable fares and delayed national payments that they say cover about 55% of discounted tickets.
  • Santa Fe approved a new fare structure and will relaunch the 10% “boleto frecuente” discount for trips paid with a registered SUBE card, setting the frequent fare at ARS 1,900 and the full fare at ARS 2,111.11.
  • In Buenos Aires City, metrodelegados will open turnstiles at Line B’s Federico Lacroze station on Monday from 7 to 8 a.m. to protest what they call illegal wage deductions; concessionaire Emova says it only docked pay for days not worked.
  • Across the interior, fares are jumping and services are being pared back, with Gran Rosario’s interurban lines up more than 30% and firms in Chaco and Tucumán turning to suspensions and split pay after subsidy cuts and falling ridership.
