Overview
- Bose, a senior CPI (Maoist) figure known as Kishan Da, died Friday at Ranchi’s state-run RIMS after he was moved from jail for treatment.
- Police said the medical cause is not yet established, and authorities have ordered a post-mortem, deputed a magistrate, and tightened security in the region.
- Arrested on November 12, 2021 with his wife after years on a Rs 1 crore bounty, he was held in Birsa Munda Central Jail as NIA cases filed in 2023 moved through trial.
- Investigators credit him with shaping Maoist strategy across Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, and Pune police had earlier named him in the Elgaar Parishad–Koregaon Bhima case that alleged a plot to kill the prime minister.
- His death further thins the Maoist top tier, with security officials noting that Misir Besra remains at large and is seen as a key operative in the eastern corridor.
