Man's Hands Chopped Off in Axe Attack at Mahoba Petrol Pump

Police are reviewing CCTV, questioning a detained suspect, probing a family allegation that names a local BJP leader.

Overview

  • The 28-year-old victim, identified as Jaivendra Singh (also called Vikki), was attacked with an axe at about 11 pm Tuesday at Chandel Petrol Pump on the Kanpur–Sagar Highway and suffered both hands severed plus serious head and leg wounds.
  • Bystanders and the victim's mother gave first aid and a Dial 112 police team took him to the district hospital, where doctors referred him to a higher medical centre in Jhansi because his condition was critical.
  • Mahoba police say they have detained at least one accused who is known to the victim and are scanning CCTV and questioning witnesses as the probe continues.
  • The victim's family has formally accused local BJP leader Shiv Pratap Singh Parmar and his associates of involvement; police have said they are investigating this claim but have not confirmed it.
  • Graphic images and video from the scene have circulated widely, raising public alarm and putting pressure on authorities to complete forensic checks, identify other suspects and determine a motive.
