Manjari Fadnnis Alleges Society Dog Was Brutally Killed in Mumbai

Public outrage followed a video plus an alleged on-site confession, prompting resident searches for the dog, celebrity support, tougher law demands, police involvement.

Overview

  • Manjari Fadnnis said Monday that Mikey, a community dog cared for by residents since about 2019–2020, went missing and she later received an account alleging he had been attacked and dumped in a nearby creek.
  • In her emotional Instagram video Fadnnis relayed that an individual told residents Mikey was struck on the head with a stick or iron rod, beaten until bleeding, placed in a sack and thrown into a khadi (creek) area.
  • Residents put up posters and searched the society while one person allegedly confessed details of the attack to neighbours, but the community has not confirmed recovery of Mikey’s body or the identity of suspects.
  • Fadnnis thanked animal-welfare activist Xavier Santiago and named Senior Police Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar as assisting the effort, and several celebrities publicly expressed shock and called for justice.
  • The case has revived calls for stronger enforcement and clearer animal-cruelty laws in India, a debate shaped by ongoing policy disputes over stray-dog management and recent Supreme Court directions on removal of dogs from institutional areas.
