Manipur Lifts Internet Suspension in Ukhrul After Five Days

Officials said a law-and-order review under Rule 3 prompted the decision.

Overview

  • An order dated February 13 restored mobile data and broadband in Ukhrul with immediate effect.
  • The Governor revoked prior shutdowns under Rule 3 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2026, effective until further orders.
  • The five-day curb, imposed by the Home Department, had blocked mobile internet, broadband, VPN and VSAT to check inflammatory content and misuse by “anti-social elements.”
  • Authorities ordered the blackout after violence in Ukhrul, including reports that at least 50 houses were burned in Litan village.
  • The Home Department said it also lifted temporary data suspensions in Lhungtin (Kangpokpi) and Phungyar (Kamjong) and asked users to act responsibly to avoid future curbs.
