Manipur Forces Seize Arms, Explosives and Drugs, Raze Bunkers in Statewide Sweep

Police cast the sweep as a bid to choke smuggling pipelines to steady daily life.

  • Security forces, which carried out coordinated searches Thursday, reported recoveries across Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Tengnoupal and Imphal East.
  • At Dampi Ridge in Churachandpur, teams seized a modified AK-47, two 12-bore rifles, two 9 mm pistols, four improvised mortars known locally as pumpis, 81 live rounds, bulletproof vests, walkie-talkies and about 1 kg of explosive pellets.
  • In Bishnupur, police found a .32 pistol, a single-barrel gun and a high-explosive grenade, while in Moreh in Tengnoupal they seized roughly 3.5 kg of WY tablets, a meth pill common in the border trade.
  • In the Satang Hill range of Imphal East, security personnel destroyed three bunkers that had offered firing positions.
  • To keep supplies moving, authorities ran 116 checkpoints and escorted 290 essential-goods vehicles on NH-37, as police warned against fake videos online and urged the return of looted arms.
