Manipur Forces Destroy 83 Acres of Poppy, Arrest Militants, Neutralize IEDs in Border Operations

Officials frame the coordinated drives as an effort to choke trafficking routes as well as militant financing.

  • Joint teams with the Forest Department cleared about 83 acres of illegal poppy at Sihai in Ukhrul and Lakhamai in Senapati, burning or demolishing plantation huts found on site.
  • Police said they arrested an active PREPAK cadre, Sapam Barlin Singh alias Nongthang, near the JNIMS main gate in Imphal East.
  • Multiple suspects linked to banned outfits PREPAK, KYKL and UNLF were detained in coordinated actions across Imphal East, Imphal West and Kakching, with outlets reporting four or five arrests.
  • Mortars and two improvised explosive devices were recovered in the Yangoubung area of Tengnoupal near the IndiaMyanmar border and destroyed by a bomb disposal team.
  • Security measures include 114 checkpoints across districts and convoy protection on National Highway-37, while a separate interception in Thoubal yielded 1.543 kg of suspected brown sugar.
