Overview
- Manipur formally flagged off 477 police vehicles on Monday, May 25, 2026, under the Centre’s Assistance to States for Modernisation of Police scheme to boost mobility and operational capacity.
- The new fleet includes 60 bulletproof Rakshak vehicles, 10 mine-protected vehicles, five heavy machine repair and high-mobility reconnaissance units, 100 motorcycles and a mix of transport and specialist trucks and buses.
- Director General Rajiv Singh said 54% of the vehicles will be deployed to hill districts where poor roads and past ambushes have hampered security operations, with the remainder going to valley areas.
- The acquisition was funded by a Ministry of Home Affairs approval of ₹196.61 crore on October 31, 2025, and officials say further modernisation will target weapons, cyber-forensics and specialised training ties such as MOUs with the NSG.
- State leaders say the aim is to improve civilian access and safety by keeping highways open and speeding emergency responses, and an incoming DGP, Mukesh Singh, is scheduled to take charge on May 30, 2026, as the state continues its security overhaul.
