Manhunt in Monaghan After Garda Patrol Car Is Rammed

Gardaí are searching for the Audi’s driver using armed units with air support.

Overview

  • Gardaí say a Northern Ireland-registered Audi rammed a patrol car on the R184 at Tullycorbett around 1pm Thursday, injuring a sergeant and a garda who were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
  • Two occupants fled after the crash, and officers soon arrested a man in his 20s believed to be the passenger and suspected of an earlier assault on a garda that morning.
  • That earlier encounter began when plain-clothes gardaí stopped and spoke to a man around 11:30am, who then allegedly attacked an officer and ran into nearby fields.
  • The search now centers on the driver, described as in his 20s, medium height and build, wearing a dark grey tracksuit top with grey tracksuit bottoms.
  • Gardaí are combing areas of Monaghan, Cavan, and Louth with Regional Armed Support Units and the Garda Air Support Unit, and they urged anyone with sightings to call 999/112 or Monaghan Garda Station at 047 77200.
