Manhunt in Beccles After JCB Ram-Raid Rips ATM From Nationwide Branch

Police report no breakthrough, leaving the branch shut.

Overview

  • Shortly before 3am on Wednesday, thieves used a stolen telehandler to smash the New Market branch and remove the cash machine.
  • The ATM was loaded into a dark-coloured van, possibly a Ford Transit, and the telehandler was abandoned at the scene.
  • Officers launched area searches and issued an appeal for information, asking witnesses to quote reference 37/12518/26 to East CID at Lowestoft Police Station.
  • The telehandler is believed to have been stolen from a Ringsfield farm, and recovery crews with March Engineering and Duncan and Sons secured the damaged building after Hammond Recovery removed the vehicle.
  • East Suffolk Council assessed structural safety and its heritage team offered restoration guidance, while customers are redirected to branches in Lowestoft or Norwich.
