Overview
- A cross-border pursuit on Wednesday morning ended when the allegedly stolen dark-coloured Bentley was dumped near Alfred Elms Road in Trentham Cliffs and its two occupants swam across the Murray River back into Victoria.
- Victoria Police say the principal suspect, 28-year-old Jayden Day, and a female associate were last seen largely unclothed and may try to obtain another vehicle to continue evading arrest.
- Police allege Day is connected to a series of violent incidents in the Mildura area, including a May 28 Hawthorn Grove aggravated burglary and shooting that grazed a 25-year-old and a crowbar assault at a Red Cliffs backpackers.
- Victoria Police and NSW Police, with Special Operations Group support, have launched a multi-jurisdiction search and warned residents not to approach the pair because their threat status is unknown.
- A separate 28-year-old man was arrested after a Tuesday warrant at a Keam Street address and remains in hospital under police guard while the investigation continues and the public is urged to report tips to Crime Stoppers.
