Overview
- Officers responded to reports of a man carrying knives on Roseberry Avenue and arrested him inside Park Edge Family Hub, which took place on Thursday at around 10.40am.
- West Midlands Ambulance Service treated the man for serious injuries at the scene and conveyed him to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire after crews were called at about 11.37am.
- Police recovered the knives from the building and confirmed there were no other injuries; the man was later discharged from hospital and taken into custody for questioning.
- Bell Green Nursery, based in the Park Edge building, activated lockdown and safeguarding procedures, said the individual did not enter the nursery or contact children or staff, and informed parents while the situation was resolved in about 40 minutes.
- The incident shows rapid co-ordination between emergency services and the childcare setting and could lead to local reviews of site access and response plans to further protect children and staff.
