Man Stabbed to Death on Hollywood Walk of Fame After Dog Attack

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and detectives say the suspected stabber is the dog’s owner which has prompted renewed questions about earlier warnings and police follow-up.

Overview

  • The attack, which occurred on May 20 while the victim waited at a bus stop near Hollywood Boulevard and Las Palmas, began when a dog bit the man and ended with him suffering multiple stab wounds and later dying at a hospital.
  • Surveillance video circulating online shows the dog biting the victim’s ankles, the man apparently defending himself, and a group of men chasing and then surrounding him before the fatal assault.
  • LAPD arrested three men at the scene the day of the attack and arrested the dog’s owner, Patrick Randall Perry, on May 28; all four are being held on suspicion of murder with bail set at $2 million.
  • Police say detectives believe Perry stabbed the victim but it is not yet clear if prosecutors have received a charging package, and no one has been convicted in the case.
  • Family members and local activists held a vigil, started a fundraiser, and pointed to a 2024 complaint and video about Perry that they say raise questions about earlier police follow-up and about bystander inaction on the busy Walk of Fame.
