Overview
- A U.S. Marshals task force said officers were fired on while executing a federal warrant at a Glenwood Avenue home in Buffalo on Monday and that they returned fire, wounding 30-year-old Keith Holmes.
- Holmes was charged by federal prosecutors with assault on a federal officer and weapons offenses in the Buffalo shootout and is being treated in critical condition at Erie County Medical Center.
- Court records show Holmes was on federal supervised release and barred from leaving the Rochester area after a prior conviction for fentanyl sales and gun charges that President Biden commuted in December 2024.
- Rochester Police identified Holmes as a person of interest in the death of 29-year-old Majesty Montgomery, whose body was found buried in Yates County on May 8 and who investigators believe was killed on Austin Street in Rochester.
- No officers were hurt in the Buffalo incident, the cause of Montgomery’s death has not been released, and local and federal authorities are coordinating an active investigation while the victim’s family seeks answers.
