Man Safe After Welfare Incident Prompts Library of Birmingham Evacuation

  • West Midlands Police said they responded to concerns for the welfare of a man at Centenary Square by the Library of Birmingham.
  • The Library of Birmingham was evacuated and a large cordon was put in place around Centenary and Chamberlain Squares.
  • West Midlands Ambulance Service was called shortly after 11am and sent one ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team.
  • Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the scene as the nature of the situation was initially unclear.
  • By around 3pm, police confirmed the man was safe and with officers, with no injuries reported and no road closures.
